Service Case: Pumped Storage Power Station
Business Case
2025-04-28
Designated as a flagship initiative of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan with 1.7GW capacity, 724m head (world’s highest), and 483m inclined shaft (China's longest), the Zhejiang Tiantai Pumped Storage Power Station is strategically positioned to bolster new energy integration capabilities and drive the transition to a next-generation power grid. The critical penstocks — likened to the station’s “vascular system” — required globally top-tier 800MPa hydro-steel plates, presenting triple challenges: ultra-strength specs, precision compliance, and extreme logistics.
Precision Resource Matching
In response to the project’s extreme demands for steel plate strength and weldability, we leveraged our integrated steel supply chain expertise to collaborate with Ansteel, China’s premier hydro-steel producer. We secured exclusive contract rights to supply custom-engineered 800MPa steel meeting world-record hydraulic pressure requirements, ensuring perfect material-performance alignment.
Full-Cycle Cost Optimization
Our cross-regional procurement strategies and multi-market resource coordination shielded this long-term project from steel price volatility, optimizing cost control for our clients.
Breakthrough Logistics Execution
Nestled deep in mountainous terrain, the power station posed formidable logistics challenges: steep gradients, volatile weather, and tight deadlines for steel plate delivery. Our dedicated logistics task force conducted advance route reconnaissance and contingency planning, deploying specialized heavy-duty transporters and veteran crews. Through unpaved mountain roads and harsh weather events (ice, snow, typhoons), we delivered 10,000 tons of high-strength steel to the remote site with zero accidents or delays.
This project exemplifies our core competency in delivering mission-critical supply chain solutions for national megaprojects, providing an integrated framework of technical precision, commercial agility, and flawless execution to support large-scale infrastructure development.
